Cons

I have been an employee at Lightspeed for 10 years and I have seen a drastic change in the company's culture. The company used to be a fun and fulfilling place to work, where management truly cared about the well-being and career growth of their employees. The atmosphere was positive and it was a pleasure to come to work each day. However, in recent years, the company's new vision has completely transformed the culture into a cutthroat and profit-driven environment. The management has become insensitive and only cares about increasing profits, disregarding the happiness and well-being of their employees. It's heartbreaking to see the hard work of previous managers and the positive culture they built, all go to waste. While I understand that a company must evolve and change to grow, Lightspeed could have done so in a much better and more considerate way. I would not recommend this company as a place to work to anyone.

Pretty on the outside...

Pros

- Passionate diverse young work force - A lot of very young talented people - Great benefits (RRSP matching etc) - 5 à 7 every Friday - Many great company events through summer and winter. - Some people truly love what they do at Lightspeed and they can be easily spotted smiling all around.

Cons

- Management and leads in PD could do with some management training - Very crowded office space, can get noisy and distracting. - It has grown so fast, people started to be treated like numbers, no compassion or empathy. - No bonuses - Not great if you're a family person. - Big expectations, but no planning or clear strategy. - Many fake smiles, watch your back!

Great environment - employees dropping like flies

- The talent - The work space - Free food - Managers are very devoted to their teams - Company going through insane growth

Cons

- Retention is really bad, employees burnout \ depression regularly - targets require lightspeed to be your life - 50-55h\week (sales) - vacations are not encouraged

Thanks for your honest review. We appreciate all the positive things you have to say about working at Lightspeed, but let’s address the more crucial points you’ve made. Our Sales team is very driven, and our environment isn’t for everyone. We do have amazing talent with incredible work ethic, and we can’t be grateful enough. This is why we don’t box people in a traditional punch-clock schedule. We aim to enable ownership and accountability on how you can attain or surpass your targets. We try to offer our best support and resources to anyone that has a tough time managing their workload. Happy employees contribute to a happy environment, and the last thing we want is burnout. We do want all employees to take advantage of their vacation time – we believe rest and disconnection is a key component to long-term success. We’re always looking for ways to improve, and value our people’s ideas and feedback. Thanks again and we’ll keep working on it!
