Pros

I can not think of anything positive at this time. None. They are a Wannabe Brooklyn startup.

Cons

Zalando is hiring talent from other countries without considering all that it takes to move from your home country and live in Germany. I took this job to provide for my family and instead was fired very quickly without warning! I lost my housing and was stuck financially. I suffered a mental break and this ruined not only my credit but my life. I just had a baby and they have affected her life too. Read all documents before and after accepting a position here, be prepared to be let go, have a german lawyer examine the paperwork before you sell your soul to this unethical money factory.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review and share your experience. We'd specifically like to address your concern regarding the topics of probation period and relocation. We value our international colleagues, and firmly believe the diversity of people, lifestyles, opinions and attitudes are crucial drivers of innovation and success. We understand that relocating from overseas is a big step and an important part of employee's experience, and therefore encourage our future colleagues to ask questions in the recruiting process to understand our offer. Our probation period of 6 months is a general practice in Germany that applies to every new employee and during this time the employment relationship can be ended by either party with two weeks' notice. We are sorry to hear about your experience and wish you all the best.

Pros

fruits, young people, possiblity of developemnt

Cons

The management is too young and very bad. They are behaving like bosses and not like leaders. They like to control every single detail and watch the screens. If you are not a private friend of your manager you can't make progress in the company. Many managers are not able to speak English and they are behaving like German cops. It was a terrible time at this company. They take over time as granted and don't suggest options to get the time back. The salary is incredibly low and there are no bonuses. Instead of firing people they try to threaten people with mutual agreements to avoid a lawyer. No honest communication.

Pros

- They have many positions usually - They have some good talent working there - Some teams have great work life balance, others not so much

Cons

- Extremely hierarchical, where you have 5-8 levels above you. People would not even invited to meetings about their own product they carry if they are not senior enough. Lots of political play, incompetent management promoting each other further and further, creating additional layers of hierarchy below them - High turnover rate, the manager won't be questioned if half his team resigned over a couple of months. - Low promotion opportunity, they usually like to hire from outside, where the new hires are worse than the existing/more junior team members. The evaluation is so subjective that I received two very very different evaluations in two teams where I did the same job. You can be stuck for years in your career if your management is bad. - Sexism is not addressed, all women can quit from the team (did happen) and nothing would happen - HR is terrible, recruiting was done at some point by freelancers. I waited on my contract for months, I had to escalate it, months to switch teams, and any important inquiry will go unanswered by them, regardless of what the issue is. Now I am supposed to pay back some overpayment that they will not respond where it came from. - The company itself is not very innovative, it's in a downward spiral, with stagnating revenue. Now with the layoffs, probably the best people will leave and the incompetent stay - They like to underpay people because there is no promotion opportunity and you only get 3-5% raise
