Pros

Good fundamental management systems. Paid training, sign on bonus. Good safety training and, to a degree, safety culture.

Cons

High turnover, understaffed because of that. Can't seem to retain good people. Much of management seems to be driven to find a way to blame a driver, whether it's an incident, or an issue with the equipment. Often, drivers' input on DVIR's are ignored. Very often, where I work, repairs are either not done, or done poorly. The company contracts with the municipality for repairs, and no one seems to drive the mechanics for the municipality to get the job done right. For instance, I have one rural route that is very dark at night or before dawn. I had a bus with low aimed headlights. The road supervisor told me that the mechanics said it's impossible to adjust the aim of the headlights. Really?! These are modified 2015-2016 Ford F 550's! There are Youtube videos of how to adjust this.

Pros

Realistically? Only the people that I worked with on the bottom level.

Cons

Seemingly all members of senior management are not formally qualified for the roles in any way, they only get there by being yes men/women. Nobody up there knows what they are doing, everybody denies responsibility for everything and passes the buck to someone else. As a result, nothing gets done, no matter how many times you ask. Requests to sit down and discuss issues are constantly met with excuses about “having meetings and to attend”. When you put forward suggestions to better sectors of the business, you are made to feel stupid. As a lower level employee, you are expected to carry out every other department’s responsibilities for them and be happy about it. Grievances fall on deaf ears and no matter how many times you bring grievances up, nothing is done about them because senior management simply doesn’t care. Just shut up and do your job. Simple tasks are also too hard. Like organising uniforms. Very hard to even get uniforms that are appropriate for the style of role you do. Every time you ask for tools and equipment to be upgraded or replaced, it’s either outright ignored with no response to emails, or it’s passed down the line for “approval” and swept under the rug. If it does get “approved”, again, the process stalls and you have to remind them every day for months before they finally get around to it. Ignored and put down at every turn, can’t get even the most basic of tasks done. Nobody wants to admit responsibility for anything and they simply refuse to hire the staff required for other roles because “it’s alright, we’ll just get these people, or these people to do it!” They are always short on staff for all areas, drivers, pre-service guys, incident guys, customer service staff, you name it. They just don’t want to spend the money to do it right. Because there is always someone they will force to do the job for them, under threat of deceptive and sneakily worded contract clauses. Every tier of employee is geared against each other. You seem to get threatened with no bonus unless you meet your KPIs to “reduce costs”, i.e. “screw the guy below you out of more money”. The culture is one of laziness, backstabbing, as well as greed and all-round disdain for the people in lower positions. Members of senior management have a childish mentality in the way they unprofessionally gossip about everybody when they think people can’t hear them.
