Pros

Good pay (on paper) Some very nice people who stays your friends for life

Cons

All that "open and honest"; "treating everyone with respect"; "open and approachable" is just a thing written on paper but doesn't happen in stores. Expecting for you to work 50+ a week without getting paid overtime. Unrealistic expectations for hours given to store. Constant change of mind from upper management. Uneducated management who doesn't know how to talk to people. Political. You only get somewhere if you agree what your store manager says even if that is outrages. You have no life. None respects your free time. Constant change of rota and issued last day before new week starts. You have to be Asian man to fit in team. None cares about your feelings, you either agree or there are the doors. You only get higher if you know people not because of your knowledge.

Pros

Great pay per hour. Great progression available (If you're under 25, preferably under 18) Staff discount (10% across all depts) Pension Local fundraising available for charitable causes upon request and after being reviewed Wages tend to go up each year, always above the nat min wage/living wage Rewards for spotting theft alerts etc

Cons

Where do I even start. If you are disabled, have any health issues, are over 25 (over 18 in most cases), or have your own mind, don't even bother. Waste of energy. If you are any of these things, you will be overlooked for training with excuses, any ideas or serious discussions you want to have will be dismissed and god forbid your managers have a bad day because YOU will be the one they take it out on. There is no respect for older members of the team at all, no leeway regarding time off even though you are EXPECTED to be at their beck and call no matter what, management constantly passive-aggressive especially if you are unable to come in with less than 30mins notice. Rotas are done and posted late, we get no more than a week's notice. Managers have been known to insist people come in whilst on booked time off/holiday to work. Being ill is frowned upon heavily, if you try to call in sick make sure you pack lightly for the guilt trip you'll be going on. Rewards mentioned in the pros section only apply if you're under 25 or are the golden child. If you are neither of those, but work hard because that's what you were employed to do, don't expect anything but your wages and a big bucket of attitude in return. Oh and also don't expect to leave when your shift ends. Add another 30mins minimum. But you must be there on time, or you'll be written up.

Pros

Great colleagues and great bargains.

Cons

Despite being a very profitable business lack of payroll and extreme workload just applies so much pressure that everyone is miserable. District managers are negitive and humiliate managers infront of collagues and have no idea how tough the day to day workload is. Store managers are forced to create a show of a caring happy place to work with birthday cakes etc but its all for photos and very ungenuine. Eg if you ask for time off for important family events you will be very unlikey to be allowed as the needs of the business come before your life. You will only progress well if you have no life, friends or family and are willing to give every minute of your life to tkmaxx. Expected to work really long hours and as a salaried manager you may seem well paid but when you calculate the hours you work, your hourly rate is not good. Teamleaders are pressured to clock out and then work hours extra for free to get the ridulious work load achieved.
