Pros

Most of the entry and mid level folks are really amazing to work alongside. Upserve adapted to covid times pretty well given a massive layoff and furlough and even got acquired by Lightspeed despite being in arguably the most impacted industry.

Cons

CPO literally said in a managers meeting "we are changing our paternity/maternity policies because pregnancies are a burden to the company". I've never seen so many jaws hit the floor at once, but unfortunately, no one is in a position to complain about or make a big deal about the CPO during a time when people were getting terminated/furoughed as the company downsized for covid. If I was in a better position or had a pregnancy on the horizon, I would have quit on the spot. Beyond that, there is a huge lack of trust for HR in general and no one trusts that the "anonymous" surveys are actually anonymous as CEO and CPO have slipped during discussions in a way that its clear they know who provided feedback (I mean, this is kind of obvious since there is no such thing as true anonymity in SurveryMonkey surveys anyways). The entire company just got demoted as well, but you bet your butt a few folks at the top jockeyed for the best positions for themselves under new ownership and let the rest of the company suffer. This move was truly despicable. Overall, if you want to work for a company where you're respected and treated like a real human being, look elsewhere. You wont find it here. Also- its quite obvious that HR has written numerous reviews to contradict the negative reviews.

Pros

The people make the company. If it weren't for most of my co-workers I'd never go back.

Cons

You don't have a life outside of Lightspeed. You're required to owork 9-6 minimum, but gd forbid you leave at 6 and it looks back- with little to no breaks. People hardly take a lunch and they usually just eat at their desk while they work. Working from home isn't a real lthing- it's only IN CASES of emergencies. The company isn't transparent at all. Ex: "shutdown week from christmas to NYE" is not a shutdown week for sales. You're expected to work while everyone else is on vacation. Overall the environment is high stress, there is no work/life balance, managers are inexperienced and I wouldn't recommend this job to anyone. Lot of highschool like politics.

I’d like to apologize for the late response, and thank you for your feedback. I’m sorry to hear about your negative experience at Lightspeed, but I’m hoping to address the aforementioned issues. We’re glad to know that you have a positive opinion about the people in the company because we truly believe that they are our greatest asset. Work/life balance is different in any rapid growing company like ours, and we certainly see the need for improvement. As for the “shut-down week”, this is known as a “partial shut-down week” in customer-facing teams, and I do apologize if there was any miscommunication on our part. If your role requires you to work during the holiday period, there is a financial incentive (to thank you for supporting our growth and customers during the holidays). In terms of management concerns, we’re always developing the way that we train our managers and have made a renewed commitment to grow our leaders. Thank you for taking the time to write.

Lightspeed is dominated by systemic issues

Pros

Amazing people, RRSP matching, unlimited PTO.

Cons

Since going public, Lightspeed seems to only focused on profitibilty. Having bought ten companies in two years, it’s become an internal mess, with no clear plan on how to manage any of the acquisitions properly. There’s no organizational awareness or real structure, the systems are an absolute mess, which provides unreliable data and the products. Sadly Lightspeed is dominated by systemic issues that, in my opinion, leadership refuses to address. Rather than fix issues, they toss out new initiatives, benefits, or lunches to distract everyone from acknowledging the uncomfortable truths and properly questioning their employer. Surveys sent out over the past two years showed over and over, that at least 80% of employees prefer remote work. However, JP is forcing people back to the back into the office because he spent millions on an office renovation despite overall feedback. Culture and moral has diminished significantly since JP took over.

Hello, thanks for taking the time to share your review here at Glassdoor. We're happy to hear that you find the people amazing and are enjoying the benefits. However your perspective on how we're organized shows that—for you at least—our senior leadership's messages haven't been landing as intended. We do survey our people often and back in October after we saw that 69% couldn't see much value in multiple days back at the office, we doubled down on the flexibility in our hybrid work policy—which allows for 2/5 days working from home, the flexibility to work from home where needed and also to discuss with your manager to align on your personal situation if our hybrid working model is causing you stress. We strongly encourage you to reach out to your manager or People Business Partner to have a quality conversation about your concerns. We aim for a great employee experience at all times and would welcome hearing specific ideas or feedback from you. We also have a confidential email people@lightspeedhq.com if you prefer anonymity. Thank you for all of the contributions you've made so far during your tenure and we hope to hear from you directly soon.
