Backward processes and horrible management

Pros

I met colleagues who are really helpful and nice, I am glad some of us are still friends even after I left the company.

Cons

6 out of 11 resigned in the department I am with (Beginning of the year). 6 newly joined after that and 4 resigned after 3-6 months. Working environment is very messy, files lying everywhere. Dust everywhere. Company Culture is terrible for mental health and physical health: During monthly closing, HOD expects to close in one day with no early cut offs for other departments. Everyone of us would have to stay till 11pm-1am and HOD expects us to come in 8am the following day. HOD goes back at 1030pm and comes in late the following day. Everyday there will be OT till 8-9pm even on weekends & PH. Everyone has to work late because of the backward processes the company is having. Just for a simple taxi claim, one has to write your name/amount to claim on a yellow paper (those you see in an old provisional shop), your attendance from HR portal, one more staff claim form to indicate reason of this claim. Attendance to sign by HR & staff claim form by HOD. You will get petty cash after 1 month. Some of us tried asking HOD to change this old school process but falls on deaf ears. As for the SAP system, It doesn't even have a basic journal template. All of us we have to key in line by line even for monthly recurring journals which is a waste of time. There is no shared drive in finance department, so we are all given hard drive to back up our files. Reason given by HOD was shared drive is too messy. When the team has to edit on the same file, we have to send each other emails on the latest copy. Another reason why we had to OT it's because of the excessive hours spent in meetings. Each meeting can go up to 6 hours long. It's so inefficient and ineffective. Every single report & journals has to be printed out in hardcopy. Let HOD review hardcopy. Waste of time and papers! Management has a lack of trust in their employees: During CB, all of us have to on video and unmute throughout working hours (even OT). At the end of the day, all of us has to submit daily tasks for HOD to review before we can leave the teams video together. Even for a monthly internal report to other department HOD, we had to ask permission and if my my dept HOD doesn't like this particular HOD, my dept HOD will make things difficult for the other HOD before my my dept HOD gives green light to send the report. A lot of politics making it inefficient to complete your work. During this pandemic, we are not encouraged to WFH. Company did not adhere to government guidelines of 50% in workplace. (even when there were confirmed cases in the company) Most of us are burnt-out, lack of work-life balance in this company and new inputs and suggestions are not valued by management.

Pros

Good bonuses, easy access location.

Cons

We have to on webcam and being micro managed to work during stressful pandemic due to other HOD requested their staffs to do so and caused the whole organisation have to follow even we reported to work in office. In the organisation as long as you are close to bosses you are free from workload. Being said your performance not measure by your capabilities but your skill of toadying. Some attitude old staffs will tell you off when you request them to do their job by saying they never faced the issue before, never encountered such situation before, then you have to figured out yourself and do their jobs. Bad culture to have highest management to chanting with managers most of the time. Traditional way of one man talk management like family business. No progress or problem solving during meeting, decision made by competing whose voice is louder. Always a game of you know how to push you get lesser job wise versa.

Pros

Very good monetary benefits pre-covid period (Good Salary / Bonuses / Quarterly Payout / Birthday Gift / CNY vouchers / Incentive Trip / Wellness Program)

Cons

For the department I worked in, there were mass resignations when I tendered. HOD was micro managing the team. Appeared to let the staff to take charge, but would need to propose different types of suggestions for HOD's approval. Worst of all, we were required to present in PowerPoint slides even for simple suggestions. Biggest issue was the HOD could not make up her mind after the presentation of ideas. So the team had endless meetings/discussions, with no conclusions. This process kept repeating itself, day after day. As a result, many colleagues would OT (after work, on weekends, on PH, on leave) to clear their day to day (routine) operation stuff. Whereas the HOD would knock off on time on days HOD had appointments, yet the team had to continue slogging. During circuit breaker, working from home was the worst thing ever. Had to on web cam during office hours, cannot mute the mic. Had to ask for permission before going toilet break, cannot disappear from the screen for too long. Had to login 5 min before official start work time. As mic was not mute, it was particularly noisy especially since there's were more than 10 of us, with family members at the background. This includes the time when HOD was chatting with particular colleagues or scolding someone. Basically, we are being monitored and it was HELL. Also politics within the department. Pretend not to know means you can get lesser work? Junior staff are working so hard and we have two seniors spending time chatting away and next moment say that you have no time to do work? One of them even has time to catch up on the news every now and then and play games during working hours?  The company seems perfect on the surface but totally rotten inside. There may be few departments that are ok but still, join at your own risk. Most of the colleagues have worked there for years. Will leave the culture to your own imagination.
