Expats Beware - not worth it

Pros

-Billund is a great hub for travel around Europe -Two sides are great: design and production. See below for the "middle". -The product is loved around the world, so your affiliation with the company will always be "cool"

Cons

-Promotions happen because of company longevity, not talent. Be prepared to see people get promoted into roles that do not relate to their knowledge or education, but they are now in charge of something important... -Your hiring manager will be a local, so you shouldn't trust what they say about life, money, schools, or anything else related to being an expat -The company does not care about poor performance, so be prepared to do extra work for people that refuse to work, deliver late, or don't deliver at all. -People Operations & Development is a joke. From their in-house people to their contracted "support", get ready to roll your eyes or be angry. -Being in the middle of Danish farmland means your coworkers do not really have other places to work in the area, so the good and bad employees will always stick around. -Regional offices often do their own thing, meaning any guidance or expectations from the headquarters will be completely ignored or common sense practices will be tossed in favor of minimal returns. -Environmental improvements are minimized by an increasing number of products (and larger products) made each month. This may tip in favor of actually being green at some point, but it is a fast moving treadmill and success is too far off. -Fancy HQ building is not actually great for business, it is more like a trophy to the corporate business. Need to have a meeting? Too bad, dozens and dozens of rooms are booked in advance. Need a quiet spot? Too bad, people are now meeting in all sorts of other spaces. Need to think? Too bad, people are trying to talk over each other while meeting at their desks or on Teams calls for hours on end.

Pros

Great vacation and personal time allotment, LEGO discount, very fun vibes in the department with activities, contests, and being able to decorate your desk. Annual bonus. Good job if you’re looking for just a job, not a career.

Cons

High expectations (7 calls per hour, no time to think), depending on how much the management likes you, you can either get away with everything, or get away with nothing, definite favoritism, favoritism allows for reps to get hired for slightly better roles, but good luck getting out of the CS department if you don’t have a connection in another department. Pay isn’t that amazing. You can only take breaks during the 15 minute slots they have you scheduled for. No more desk decorations, sense of community has greatly diminished post-COVID

Pros

Scope of work is really simple and narrow. The only think making work complicated is the people and mindset Owner family is caring. They give back to the community and to the employees too Good benefits - from leaves to insurance. Most People are nice and can really be your friends Office and IT equipment are better than most companies in Singapore Flex work hours but depends on manager. Local managers tend to still have the 9-6, micromanager mindset. Foreign bosses exhibit the company culture more. Slow. You can take time to rest and enjoy

Cons

Not recommended for fresh grads since learning is so limited and training (critical thinking, discipline, striving for results which is very important to build at the onset, isn’t there) No promotion from within principle. You have to pull strings and build relationships to progress your career (both moving roles and getting a promotion) - results don’t matter. If you like this kind of culture, then you’re good. Else, accept that you can stay in the same job for years. Lots of pretence in the hiring process. They open up roles both internally and externally, even if hiring managers already have chosen someone or have a top candidate in mind. Waste of time for the participants but still have to go through to show there’s a process People appraisals are feedback-based - be careful on getting on the bad side of some LT, feedback and perception lingers Slow. Sometimes you’ll get frustrated that a simple task can take a month, as an example. Not so much on your resume after a year of working
