Just like a season of GoT

Pros

Working at Lightspeed is much like a season of Games of Throne. - You will work in a beautiful castle and be provided with everything you need - You will take part in unique, wild adventures, conquering (Acquiring) new territories (Markets) - You will be surrounded and inspired by highly skilled and talented individuals, the best warriors of modern corporations, allowing you to learn, perfect your own skills and become one of the best as well - You might obtain riches beyond your wildest dream if you are deemed worthy (RSU, commissions)

Cons

- Much like GoT, the theory of survival of the fittest is an understatement. Behind the glamour facade of a kind and noble king, beautiful castles and amazing adventures, you will need to watch your back and navigate through a culture of extreme corporate politics, blatant public shaming and humiliation, ruthless demagogy, and insidious plots. - The storyline will pivot abruptly at any moment and without warning - You may last 1 minute, 1 episode, maybe 1 season. If you are lucky the dragon will take you under his wing... but for how long? As long as it will suit him. Don't be fooled, it is the dragon, not the king, who is pulling the strings.

Pros

The benefits are great (fitness allowance, free metro pass, extensive insurance plan). People are really cool, fun place if you're into partying and binge drinking.

Cons

This company owns you from the moment they hire you. No life-work balance possible, leaving at the plannned end your shift is frowned upon. Many cases of burn-outs in the past year. People performing well are glorified, the ones who don't hit their objectives are seen as low-lives. Member of upper management position are not qualified, they were promoted based on friendships / were part of the team when the company started. No possibilities to move internally, once you start in a department they will never let you grow or move to another department.

Making it Human and DEI Initiatives are used as window dressings

Pros

Flexible paid time off The people - Lightspeed hires very intelligent people. It’s a shame that folks end up leaving quite soon after they started. So no real progress can be made with projects etc.

Cons

- Path to profitability by any means necessary - cut travel for employees to see each other if remote, etc. However the C-Suite can travel to the South of France and the Carribean for their off-site meetings. Not to mention minimal increases, and unclear promotion cycles. - DEI as it relates to return to office - a question came up in a company wide Q&A where concerns were shared around returning to office for BIPOC and women. Our CPO had a politically correct and fine response, however the CEO insisted on taking the mic and saying that ‘this company has some challenges ahead, so you can either prioritize winning and success or work life balance’. What message is this sending to employees who are parents or caretakers and do not have the choice but to take care of people and prioritize work life balance. Does this mean they are not bound for success? He also said ‘this isn’t for everybody - so if it’s not for you maybe Lightspeed isn’t for you’. - lack of core vision - this company was built on the value of supporting SMBs, etc. Now all of a sudden we went High GTV customers. The CEO is trying to be toast and shopify without having what it takes to get there.
