Absolutely deplorable

Pros

One of the three managers was tolerable. And there are chances to win a HomeGoods gift card every week or so if you win a "Star" card.

Cons

This was an absolutely miserable place to work. As I was in college, trying to make money to pay for my education, I worked here as a cashier. The managers were incredibly condescending. At one point, one of them even had the audacity to drop the F-bomb on me for a petty mistake I made. Within the first few weeks of working there, I broke down crying--not from an unpleasant customer (which is quite frequent), but from the unbelievable disrespect from the management. And I saw 5 other coworkers cry from the management. The managers were unbelievably insensitive and took out their anger on their employees, as if we had no dignity. In addition, the schedules change every week. At the time, I was balancing three jobs, so some weeks I would work 20 hours and the next week I would be assigned 3 hours. Perhaps upper-level positions are better, but it's overall a miserable atmosphere for a "HomeGoods Happy" place.

Pros

There's always something to do here so you're never bored. Time flies every shift because you definitely get your steps in. Pretty physical as you are constantly restocking shelves or moving product to make room for more. Flexible schedule and friendly people to work with.

Cons

Always messy. No room for more products. Management tells you to just "stuff it in". Always short staffed. Too many highschoolers who don't care. Customers are rude and will make a mess as you clearly watch and expect you to clean it up without a "sorry". My store in particular was remodeled but still need new phones (only a few work at all). If you're on the floor, you're always interrupted to backup the cashiers so "flowing" rarely gets done. Nobody knows what products come in until they get unboxed from the back room. Backroom is always messy and dangerous with boxes piled high... it's like a maze walking thru with the possibility of something falling on you. I've been there about a year and my motivation and care started decreasing... time to go.
