Pros

I'm a former Malcolm Pirnie employee and was very content and satisfied with my career until the firm got bought out by ARCADIS. I chose to go to work for Pirnie 11 years ago because of the company culture and the value they placed on their employees. All this has changed and I'm now seeking other employment.

Cons

Constant pressure to maintain billability, including working overtime in order to get in your non-billable work. Very little training, guidance, leadership when taking on new responsibilities. Expectation that you need to learn anything new on your "own time". Not possible to work 32-hours a week. No value placed on retaining the best people. Bottom line is all management cares about.

Pros

Wish I could think of one

Cons

No loyalty to employees, but only to shareholders. I was with a smaller company that was acquired by Arcadis and Arcadis ran this company into the ground. All they are looking to do is monopolize the industry while the CEO's, CFO's, investors, etcetera get rich and the employes are treated like factory workers. I had so many bosses who had bosses that had bosses, it doesn't surprise me they all care about the bottom line, cause all the profit is paying dividends to people who don't manage clients. The CEO makes $650,000 a year, with a 40-75% annual bonus, and the average employee, the one who's doing the work for the clients gets 3% salary increases, and 0% annual bonuses...Something doesn't seem right. Bottom line is they don't treat employees like they're valued. If you want loyal employees and clients who believe in what you are selling, you have to give your employees a reason to want to work for you.

Pros

Absolutely some of the brightest people in the industry. Great projects and mentors for honing your specialized skill set. No problems getting the right specialized software to do the job. Pay is in-line and the benefits are slightly above average.

Cons

You feel like an independent consultant lobbying internally to maintain your billable workload. There is no workload planning, so you have to constantly take on too much work to make sure you meet billable goals. There is little cross-training, so what you were hired to do is what you will do everyday. You see your supervisor once a year during annual reviews. The office culture is bleak and slightly depressing. Hard to describe, but just not a happy place to work.
