Pros

It is exciting the see the inner processes and infrastructure of huge company, the scale you see at AWS you will not see in many other places. There are opportunities for learning everywhere, although it might sometimes be difficult to take the time. The hiring bar is high and most of the colleagues are very smart people.

Cons

Work life balance is not great. There is mandatory on-call (paid) for everybody, which plays into that even if the number of pages isn't that big. Not all products are all that interesting to work on. No matter what you will spend a big portion of your time working on infrastructure and less so on the product. This may not align well with the passions of frontend engineers. Promotion to senior level is notoriously difficult, many won't achieve it.

Pros

Highly dynamic organization due to growing cloud business. You will find highly motivated and competitive engineers and working environment. The company expects to give you your sweat and blood in return for a decent pay. Company also expects you to embrace its leadership principles in full from which you can learn a great deal - especially about frugality and customer obsession. Good place to learn and excel yourself.

Cons

Long working hours with decent stock options. Work life balance is a myth here although managers try hard to show they exist but so much additional task other than projects are assigned that you will have to work additional hrs. You are basically a figure which can be replaced. I never saw and still do not see any team work except during a project. Some Practice Managers are very quick to put blame on their employees especially in DACH region. Expect no pay raises for at least 2 yrs. Frugality principles are used basically to not give any kind of perks (expect getting 20-30 Euro as Christmas gift for the work you did for this organization which is really a shame).
