Pros

...beers? And people seem to be able to take as many sick days as they want... (especially around deadlines)

Cons

Poor communication, dysfunctional leadership, boys' club, boring tech

Pros

Decent salary but not enough to compensate the abuse you have to deal with

Cons

Racist, individualistic workplace, the front they put on about how diverse and open they are is all lies. There is about 1 POC for every 200 white employees in the Zalando studios office and that is not an exaggeration. All gaslighters.

Pros

During my time at Zalando, I faced my fair share of challenges, but I don't want to overlook the positive aspects. First off, Zalando has some really great office spaces. They're comfortable and modern, making it a nice place to work. Another thing to keep in mind is that, despite the ups and downs I experienced, Zalando does have a solid reputation in the fashion and e-commerce industry. Having Zalando on your CV can be a plus and may open up opportunities for you down the line. So, while it wasn't always smooth sailing for me, there are some silver linings.

Cons

Looking back on my time as a Key Account Manager (KAM) at Zalando, I want to share my experiences in a straightforward, relatable way: Workplace Culture: The atmosphere at Zalando's workplace was often filled with tension and negativity, which made it hard for us to truly enjoy our work. Transparency Issues: There were times when the management team seemed to keep us in the dark. It left many of us feeling out of the loop and undervalued. Excessive Workload: Zalando's push for results sometimes meant we faced heavy workloads without much acknowledgement for going the extra mile. While they talk about flexibility, it could get pretty overwhelming. Burnout Prevalence: Burnout became a real issue among my colleagues and me. It's clear that prioritizing employee well-being and taking steps to prevent burnout should be a top concern. Inadequate Leadership: Our line managers often struggled to improve their skills, and it resulted in less-than-ideal management experiences. This included last-minute cancellations of one-on-one meetings, feedback that could've been more constructive, and a focus on the negatives without acknowledging the positives. Duplicitous Practices: At times, it felt like Zalando's corporate politics were playing mind games with us. We were encouraged to share our concerns, only for that information to be used against us later. It's a tough pill to swallow when trust and transparency take a hit. HR Accessibility: Getting in touch with the HR department could be a real hassle. Honestly, sometimes it felt like it was easier to find them on LinkedIn than through official channels. Low Wages in Comparison to the Market Benchmark: It's important to mention that Zalando's wages, compared to the market benchmark, are notably lower considering the demands placed on employees. Competitive compensation should be a no-brainer to attract and keep top talent. As you think about your career options, I want to give you the real deal. While there are a few positives, these concerns did shape my experience into one that might not align with your own professional goals.
