Pros

You get to work with some of the best industry analysts, great clients, and learn a tremendous amount about the inner workings of the energy sector

Cons

Can be an unforgiving and aggressive environment to start out in without much experience. I was laid off in a completely unprofessional manner - not only was I told I hadn't yet finished my probationary period despite having had confirmation from HR that I had 2 months prior to being laid off, my access to my computer and email were shut down within 10 minutes of the call so I had no chance to check. They went out of their way to hide who was being let go during the worst of the market all while talking up how much they care about their employees. Reality is that it's a cutthroat business. Some of that is unavoidable. There was a market crash after all. But the experience really emphasized the extent to which shareholders always come first and repeated flops due to bad decisions taken by the upper management filtered down into pressure on junior employees quite visibly without any honest accountability taken internally.

Pros

It depends on which department you land. Can't think of any pros for the consulting "team" I worked with unfortunately.

Cons

A consulting practise with incapable and shoddy management that is desperately trying to compete with major consulting firms with minimum cost/staff and minimum resources It is expected to work extremely long hours and weekends Junior and mid-level consultants pushed beyond their limits Arrogant and misbehaved management with limited knowledge Poor pay No recognition Avoid if you can. Doesn't worth nor the money nor the effort.

Pros

Great for someone starting in the industry, to build experience and connections. 4 weeks vacation right from the start

Cons

Woodmac was acquired by a larger company Verisk, and the culture has died. It is a Scottish company and has been biased towards staff in the UK getting more upward mobility. Not competitive in terms of salary.

Wood Mackenzie Response

Hi, I appreciate you taking the time to leave some feedback for us. It’s great to hear you enjoyed the benefits on offer whilst you were at the Company. We are going through changes, but our culture (across all our locations) is something that we hold dear to us and are committed to maintaining as we grow. We are also fortunate that the Wood Mackenzie culture we worked so hard to create aligns so well with that of our parent company, Verisk. Craig McMahon, Head of Americas Research
