Pros

Pay was great given my former role at another tech company and bi-annual bonus was appreciated when it was given (it was suspended due to COVID-19).

Cons

I found the environment and culture difficult to adapt to and thrive in. There was a lack of support/resources for my role when I originally started with the company. As time went on and I reported to a different executive, I no longer felt like a valued member of the team. I would provide input or feedback on areas where I saw gaps and thought improvements could be made, but they were either ignored or barely acknowledged. There was a lot of favoritism going on; MAJOR gaslighting from two executives towards me (one in particular), as well as other verbal and emotional/mental abuse. I made efforts to be open, honest and transparent with my feelings and how various scenarios were being perceived or handled, but it backfired. Two other colleagues were experiencing the same behaviors from one of the same executives, so we all went to Employee Relations with our ongoing concerns. The executive actually black-balled one of my colleagues so she was unable to take advantage of another career opportunity at the company (very unfortunate). Other than a minor slap on the wrist to the executive, nothing was done. I have NEVER been treated so badly in all my years of working in the tech field (30+ years) and I would never recommend anyone work at VMware. All three of us ultimately resigned and I understand there have been countless additional complaints against the individual.

Pros

Smart, well intentioned people who just seem to struggle to deliver for their employees.

Cons

There is zero work/life balance. You either work 60 hr work weeks or risk missing deliverables and being managed out. Being a global company is used as an excuse for a lack of prioritization and patience.

Pros

- Previously good WLB - Good benefits - Flexible WFH options - Lots of opportunities to move internally - Lots of opportunity to learn - There may be some opportunity in the uncertainty of long term outlook post DELL spinoff NOTE: Most of the above has been negatively affected lately as employees leave for much better opportunities

Cons

- High turnover right now with many people leaving for more pay and less stressful work (which is caused by people leaving. Creates a vicious cycle of people leave, we have trouble hiring, work gets distributed to team, someone gets burned out and leaves for a better opportunity, repeat) - Decreasing WLB due to added work - More pressure on the business leaders which then gets passed on to technical leaders and teams - Decent pay, but honestly with low stock performance, many are leaving to pursue more lucrative offers. Many peers are leaving for 1.5x - 2.0x TC - CEO does not inspire confidence post DELL spin off - WLB previously was good, but early morning and late night calls can be killer over time.
