Pros

TI is a technology stalwart. Senior management has a good handle on the direction the company is heading. Revenues, margins, cash flow and balance sheet are very healthy. TI is also very strong in ethics and accountability, so this company is not going to vaporize overnight like Enron or have financial scandals like Broadcom, Maxim and others.

Cons

It is a big company, so it is not as nimble as some of the smaller, fabless chip companies. Many employees are in their jobs too long and have become territorial. You have to be careful not to offend them or step on their toes. Too often, not enough action is taken to remedy poor performers because it is such a touchy subject. So you have to suffer many incompetent co-workers.

Pros

Overall, a very good place to work. Lots of opportunity and overall the company treats employees well. (was a great place to be in the early 2000s. When everyone else was laying off, the damage at TI was minimal). Pay and benefits were very good. Management was strong and supportive, especially in the sales organization.

Cons

Most opportunities are in Dallas...if you don't want to move there, you will hit a ceiling. Some groups had a passive aggressive culture.

Pros

The pay and benefits are very good.

Cons

Minorities are given first opportunities on a lot of promotions regardless of qualifications. Most of the people on the leadership teams have never worked anywhere but TI and are therefore unaware of the technology available that can help employees be more effective in the performance of their jobs. In other words, "this is how we have always done it". The systems TI employs to manage operations is literally 25 yr. old technology, we may as well be using stone tablets.
