Pros

Target is has a strong brand name and is respected as an innovative retailer. If you work at Target, people know that you've had solid work experience and know how to maneuver your way through a big company.

Cons

Target churns and burns through its business analysts. It's such a big company that everyone's role is really specialized at headquarters, so there is a lot of drudgery and spreadsheets and not a lot of creativity. Also, despite what Target recruiters say, finding out about other areas of the company and making lateral moves is difficult.

Pros

They are definately diverse in who they hire and are very ethical. I think that the compensation starting out at the entry exec level is very fair and probably pretty competitive. They give a great opportunity to people without experience in a particular field so this is a great launching pad for someone coming out of college or trying to switch career fields. I do love shopping at Target and the progressiveness of the company as a whole so being a part of that at any level is exciting. The training and personal leadership development is incredibly thorough for anyone not familiar with such things.

Cons

As an entry level exec you are competing against others for those coveted promotions... a lot of times it comes at a price for your work life balance. They do hire a lot of young single people and as someone who is older and has children it is tough to compete when you cannot dedicate those same extra hours. Promotions are left up to your development as well and that a lot of the time is so subjective that you can be frustrated with what you need to do next to move up. Once you learn the job there is little room or excuse for error.

Pros

There appears to be a lot of opportunities to move through different positions and try new things. Advancement is based on performance.

Cons

The hours are very long. It is the company expectation to work a minimum of fifty hours a week, but that easily turns into more then sixty-five. Nights and weekends are expected and it is very common to work until midnight closing the store, only to be the six am opener the next day. Payroll is also very tight and it is almost impossible to complete workload with such small crews. Bonus seems very difficult to achieve and
