Pros

The overall feel of Target is very young and fast-paced. It's not your typical corporation, because it's more rare than common to find someone over the age of 40. You also have good opportunity to move around and get promoted (until the economic slowdown) if you start at an exempt-level position. You immediately get ownership of large product categories with the understanding that it may take you a year to completely figure out your role. It's also a very social environment, so it's generally easy to meet people if you're from out of town. It's a great first job for someone right out of college.

Cons

Target tries to be an advocate for work/life balance, but it's not necessarily the case depending on department and company pyramid. Specifically for the business analyst roll, Target tries to lump the entry-level exempt positions into one main core role. Each business analyst role is very different, though, and you don't get a full picture of each until you join the company. It can also be difficult to not feel like a number in a corporation at times due to the fluid movement of team members from position to position. You really have to make yourself stand out and be recognized in order for any major advancement. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but be prepared to showcase yourself.

Pros

Gain experience for future management positions. It will be easy for individuals to move to another retailer and move into a more powerful management position. There is something to be said about the opportunities to grow at target; however, you have to be willing to relocate. Target employs very conservative people and if you are not willing to be positive and work hard, you will not go far with target.

Cons

Low growth potential, low pay, and few benefits. You can get more pay and benefits working at McDonalds with less responsibility. There is a chance that you could find yourself working for a poor boss. You must make good with your team lead, because you are really on your own.

Pros

Stable and great work environment. Some of the mangers are very supportive of the employee while some does the Mega Micro Management which it really hurts. But for the last 3 yrs Target has opened shop in India and slowly moving all the development work there. There are some really good people who have advanced very well in short period of time. Overall I would say it's a great place to be for the job stability and for women to work.

Cons

You have to take very active role to get promoted to the next level. It's not that you get to the next level after some years of work.
