Pros

Diversity of projects to work on due to the high number of contracts at the El Segundo location. Good benefits and relatively relaxed atmosphere. I rated my experience rather high because I worked on well funded challenging contracts that gave the opportunity for travel and overtime if wanted, not mandatory. However, I know people that worked on contracts with funding problems and they seemed to dread their job. I can only grade Raytheon based on my particular work experience.

Cons

Location, painful commute. There are not many desireable, affordable housing areas near El Segundo and there is no easy way through the traffic. Many facilities look 30 years old.

Pros

Stimulating work, relaxed atmosphere (business casual), great co-workers. Getting time-off when needed for emergencies, or just last minute plans is pretty easy, because of the size of the company. Many opportunities for advancement. Yearly reviews and raises are pretty consistent. You definitely know what the career path is; the company goes to great lengths to make sure that all employees know what's expected of them. For the most part, Raytheon, as a company abides by it's core values and stated objectives. The work pace is reasonable for someone who loves what they do and is motivated. If you don't like what you do, I would imagine that it could be a pretty tough place to work.

Cons

Very large company, so sometimes you can feel like a very small and insignificant cog in a very large machine.

Pros

The work/life balance at Raytheon is great. I take every other Friday off and have no problem modifying my time if I have to go to the doctor or anything else that pops up. I also work from home from time to time. That said, not every employee is "allowed" to use the same flexible time benefits. Raytheon is also a great place for entry-level employees looking to get a very robust start to their career. I finished the rotation program where I moved to three different cities/parts of the company and had exposure to three different assignments and areas.

Cons

Raytheon is a VERY large company - 80,000 employees. It's hard to feel like your day to day job is making a difference in such a huge workforce. Change is difficult and things tend to move very slowly. Also, due to the nature of the defense industry this is as bureaucratic as any company can get. There is a large portion of the workforce that comes from a military background so you see that in the culture. Raytheon is also a heavily white middle aged male dominated culture - not a lot of diversity in the company. There is also not a lot of room or encouragement for creativity.
