Pros

One of the best reasons to work for Lockheed is the ability to take advantage of the numerous oppertunities. You have the option of moving horizontally accross different job functions, moving to different projects, or moving to a different location altogether. Lockheed is located all over the country and even overseas. The type of work Lockheed is involved in is diverse. The Owego facility alone specializes in project from many different industries. For those college hires there are great programs that can be taken advantage of, such as LDP, where Lockheed will help you get your masters while giving you the oppertunity to move around the company to find what you like.

Cons

Lockheed is a large company that can seem overwhelming at times. It is easy to feel lost at the company unless you put forth extra effort to stand out. It's also an older traditional type company where managers believe that people need to put time in before they are rewarded. One major downside is the overall "slowness" of the company. When I started, it took management several moneth before I had enough work to occupy 40 hours a week. However, once you start getting work, overtime is common. Work on projects also tends to be slow moving because of all the government involvement. The US government isn't always the most cooperative of customers.

Pros

Job stability, job satisfaction, career growth, ability to work on new technology, flexible schedule, good vacation policy, one of the few companies with a pension plan, good co-workers, the company has a good reputation and generally is impressive to say you work for Lockheed Martin

Cons

salaries are below average in Lockheed Martin's effort to reduce labor rates to the government, Lockheed Martin has been posting record profits lately despite also announcing lower then expected pay raises, despite Lockheed Martin's recent success they have been unable to utilize any profits to help employees with rising health care costs, working for a large corporation often gives the impression that the corporation does not care about the employees, Lockheed Martin's excuse is they are no worse than the average, they tout being just average for benefits and salary as if its attractive to employees rather than trying to be better than the competition like they should be

Pros

- Work till retirement, solid employment - Some great people to work with - Benefits are exceptional - Flexible work schedule, if position allows it - Better than Boeing

Cons

- Senior management is a mirror of customer structure (inefficiency) - Promotions and company growth dictated by business group, not engineering personnel - Product cycle is 20+ years - No room to venture into other specialties in engineering due to difficulty in moving laterally
