Pros

I suppose career advancement if you are starting out. The help desk environment is a great place to start for someone that wants to get into customer relations and understanding the beginning PC user to the Network adminstrator side. Working with the customer is the most satisfying part of the job because they do appreciate you.

Cons

Prima donnas galore, constant back biting between contractors and the U.S. Army recruiting command the main customer for LM at Fort Knox. Pay is the major downside. The place called the SOC (Service Oversight Center) in the basement of building 1307, the aforementioned USAREC. Pay started at 11 or 12 bucks an hour!! When working as a network admin was only at 16.50. People that had been there 5 years were only making 45K or 50K. Pretty piss poor for major responsibilites eh? The time to get on post is a major factor in job satisfaction it can take 30 or 40 minute to get through security. The town outside of post is called Radcliff, an armpit of a place, the only decent little town nearby is Elizabethtown, also now a major motion picture haha. 30 minutes just to get to the gate in the morning and its just 10 miles. Otherwise Louisville is 25 miles up the road but traffic is heavy. On the good side. Well there isn't one.

Pros

Great Company. Very stable, many advancement opportunites. The people are respectful. You can create your own work schedule and there's a great balance between work and family life. I worked there as an intern and the intern program was building, but headed in the right direction. The access to people and information at the company is great. Doesn't take much to get the answer you need.

Cons

The pay is lower than some other companies in it's bracket.. I think there could be a formal entry-level training program for those who are coming straight out college into the work force. Access to certain websites on the internet are limited such as personal e-mail cannot be accessed from the company''s network.

Pros

Great benefits, great opportunities and industry! The people in most places are nice and almost all are dedicated to what we do as a company. Many are former military, which has its ups and downs. There are cliques and politics but I have yet to see an organization that doesn't have those. There are some very cool things to see and be a part of help and a real sense that you are helping in the fight against terror and helping the nation. Depending on what you do there are also a lot of areas and projects you can get involved with.

Cons

Politics and its modeled after the federal government so there is a lot of red tape! I am suprised we don't have to fill out a form to use the bathroom! Benefits are good now, but seems they may be taking a turn for the worse in the next few years. The company is so big that the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing, so that often causes rework and confusion in all areas of the business. Things move very slowly in most cases...its sad how long it takes to do a task that should take 10 minutes.
