Good place to start, but don't stay.

Pros

Great schedule at some sites, 3 wks vacation plus the week of Christmas is considered paid holiday time, benefits & discounts are great. They pay great for your first 2-3 years, so get the $$$ while you can. Tuition reimbursement is good if you take advantage of it.

Cons

Management absolutely sucks! Its a well-known secret that in order to get promoted you have to leave the company & then come back, cause they won't promote you otherwise. You spend a lot of time doing things that make absolutely no sense, because the company has no incentive to do things correctly the first time or to innovate. They talk a good game, but its all smoke&mirrors, don't be fooled.

Pros

For some geographic areas the pay can be fairly competitive. Management is spread so thin you're allowed to develop regional workarounds to the company's shortcomings.

Cons

Hard to know where to begin. Lockheed IS3 employees are second-class citizens within the company. Getting answers to the most basic questions (pay, benefits, sick time, etc.) can become an endurance trial. Two employees working in the same place can go seeking an answer to the same question and get two different answers. Was told upon hire that raises and promotions do not exist. Benefits were greatly overstated at hire, turned out to be far below what is average for the industry. There is a complete lack of information flowing downward from the top. We learn more about what Lockheed is doing through the client than we do through Lockheed. The client has been redefining job functions and staffing levels (downward) on an almost weekly basis for months. Individual performance reviews aren't even done by Lockheed; they're the purview of the the client.(A performance review is a moot point when there is no possibility of promotion or raise.) There is a lack of guidelines and standards about how to perform job tasks, and those that exist are constantly changing.

"We don't do that here..."

Pros

It's a good place to get some experience for your resume. If you're interested in the defense industry, this is the largest contractor in the world.

Cons

Pay quickly falls behind the rest of the industry (if you're an entry-level hire). Management is often dishonest, at least at this site. Ethics are a joke. The best quote I got was from a functional when asked about doing something other than paperwork security tasks. His response was "we don't do that [my field of expertise] here..." I found a new job a few weeks later and submitted notice. Despite the acknowledgment, they're confused as to why I'm leaving. When I came here 2 years ago, this site (King of Prussia / Valley Forge) had over 12,000 employees on the campus. Last month it was revealed that there are about 3,500. This site is being starved to death (i.e., if you aren't in VA, CO, or CA, you don't really matter).
