Pros

Lockheed has very mature Dev, Test, and Production operation processes, and well-enforced operation policies, which leads to a nice, stable environment. Lockheed also supports and frequently wins new government and commercial contracts, so you'll get experience supporting a variety of different agencies & industries. Technical leadership is strong - at least in terms of familiarity with existing contract support.

Cons

They're extremely cheap. No bonuses, and the below-average raises often don't cover the annual cost-of-living increase OR the increased costs employees pay for their "benefits". This is partially a result of being a government contractor, where income is somewhat fixed. Uncertainty over contract renewals can also be stressful.

Pros

I suppose career advancement if you are starting out. The help desk environment is a great place to start for someone that wants to get into customer relations and understanding the beginning PC user to the Network adminstrator side. Working with the customer is the most satisfying part of the job because they do appreciate you.

Cons

Prima donnas galore, constant back biting between contractors and the U.S. Army recruiting command the main customer for LM at Fort Knox. Pay is the major downside. The place called the SOC (Service Oversight Center) in the basement of building 1307, the aforementioned USAREC. Pay started at 11 or 12 bucks an hour!! When working as a network admin was only at 16.50. People that had been there 5 years were only making 45K or 50K. Pretty piss poor for major responsibilites eh? The time to get on post is a major factor in job satisfaction it can take 30 or 40 minute to get through security. The town outside of post is called Radcliff, an armpit of a place, the only decent little town nearby is Elizabethtown, also now a major motion picture haha. 30 minutes just to get to the gate in the morning and its just 10 miles. Otherwise Louisville is 25 miles up the road but traffic is heavy. On the good side. Well there isn't one.

Pros

Flexibility, little micromanagement, relaxed environment are some of the qualities of my work place.

Cons

The benefits package is very limited, only 1 healthcare plan available that should have better coverage considering the size of the company. Salary could be higher to compensate for the area we work in.
