Lidl US - Hard work, but great opportunity

Pros

You are making a big impact on more than just one small department or one store. There is a lot of opportunity in other areas to succeed. You do have to put in hard work, but it is there. Benefits and pay are great Senior leadership is mostly European right now because they have Lidl experience and will be the ones to bring the culture over to the US and keep a consistent Lidl brand. It is a strategic decision that they plan on changing in the future by promoting US managers once they finish training. Most American employees have been with the company for less than a year, but the future opportunity is available to them. Most people from the board went through the same track that the American managers are going through now aside from a few American executives that they hired externally that are already on the board. Board members/Executives/even the CEO check in on managers to communicate with them and listen to them.

Cons

You can read the other reviews and see how difficult it can be to adjust to a culture that demands hard work. If a business is going to succeed, it needs to use efficient people. Really it is on you whether you can complete your work in a given amount of time or not. HR does sometimes have a lack of detail. Mistakes with names, appointments, emails can become ubiquitous which creates IT issues with email addresses, paycheck/W2 issues, etc.

Pros

Good pay with hard working staff and at times reasonably flexibility with holidays and hours. The job was very useful for me when attending college during the week.

Cons

Tough job at times. Very early mornings with stressful targets to be met. Can finish late and have to work early the very next day. Don't always get breaks.

Pros

Excellent wage for customer assistants (although I don't think anybody would stay if it wasn't as good!) Discount card for 10% Very flexible; they give you shifts which suit you. Particularly accommodating for uni students. A variety of tasks which keep you busy and keeps time going quickly. You can choose your holidays (but it's first-come-first-serve) Apparently Lidl is quite ethical for a (supermarket), and lots gets recycled

Cons

Extremely hard work, physically and mentally; shop floor work and closes are physically demanding, and till work is mind-numbingly boring, so you have to be committed to all! Most of the duty managers need lessons in how to be good managers. They can speak to you in out-of-order manners, and are often ruse to customers as well! You do not get out on time if you are on a close shift. Ever. And they tell you off if you say you need to leave on time. Ridiculous targets esp. on till speeds. We are told to scan as fast as we can, which results in physical pain, and stressed customers. You get a break when the duty manager says so. Sometimes they forget, or are just very late, so you can sometimes be stuck on a till for 5hrs +. Their attitude is horrible if you say you are too hungry or need a break soon. Lots of rude customers :(
