Pros

- Large diverse organization - Strong focus on Health & Safety

Cons

- No performance incentives for people beneath management - Toxic work culture. Seems the worst of both companies has been combined to create a new culture - Flat organization with little room for growth - Management often clueless - Promoting unqualified employees. Managers/Team Leads who are not fit to lead teams are often in place - Nepotism - "Industry Standard Wages" which have no performance incentives for people beneath management - Lack of work life balance - Poor processes and often incorrect people in place to improve them - Living in the stone age in terms of technology. Company as a whole is extremely slow to adopt new tech - No career progression planning. Just the yearly administrative drivel in the form of objectives and "personal development"

Not great. Used to be much better.

Pros

Pay seems to be pretty good relative to other employers but it feels like a golden handcuff approach because the culture is negative, the benefits are less than average, and the room for advancement is non-existent.

Cons

Very messy organization since merger. Support functions such as HR and finance have forgotten that they're there to support the operations. Just eliminated bonuses for most folks. Lack of investment into the operations. Everything is geared towards making the shareholders happy and it shows.

Not the great company it once was

Pros

Most senior management is surprisingly uninterested and/or unknowledgeable of the actual business so they tend to be hands off. The wages are competitive and the plant operations are generally based in relatively low cost, rural parts of the country so the income is good for operations, unless you work in the Chicago office.

Cons

Lots of turnover in management with little long term job stability without multiple relocations. Work/life balance is not a priority. Senior management often uses intimidation to get results to support their excessive bonus structure. There are zero long term strategies in place as every effort is to make it to the next quarter and ultimately the year end goal. I'd avoid joining the company at this time as lots more head count reductions are upcoming. So far it's mostly the Lafarge employees that are getting the axe as Holcim is clearly in charge. They have have a bad morale problem for many years now and that's probably just going to get worse.
