Pros

Good pay in a good industry. Good location in a nice city (Sugar Land office). Fluor does good work and services the biggest oil producers worldwide. If you like to travel, there's plenty of opportunity. Good experience on large projects. This company looks good on your resume. Company is on flex time, so only on a few projects do you have to punch the clock. Health insurance is average. There are many good people working here.

Cons

There is a ton of bureaucracy yet managers are very aloof, which makes you feel extremely alienated. Praise is rare but ciriticsm is frequent and brutal. Neither is specific, so you never really know if you are doing a good job or how to improve. Managers's moods swing wildly from day to day, jumping from ridiculously stupid and unproductive micromanagement to total abdication. Don't expect them to protect you from random, unfounded client attacks. Most Fluor managers are into covering thier own behinds and don't give a flip about you, your ideas for improvement, or your career. As in any big company in the U.S. these days, diversity is too often more important than competance. Most people here cannot just tell you anything face to face, they must have a meeting and invite anyone who might have an interest in the decision. You will drown in email because everyone who has the slightest interest in your project must be cc'd. No one wants to be too specific lest they get blamed for something, so resolving complicated problems take 10x as much effort as necessary. It is the nature of big global corporations. There is no covered parking. They use the open office floor plan, meaning no privacy for anyone except the top managers. If you are smart and entrepreneurial, you will have a very hard time here. Companies like Fluor make their money off of deep-pocket clients through inefficiency and client confusion. However, if you are a clever, backside-kissing ladder climber, you will feel right at home.
