Poorly Managed Company

Pros

The health insurance is fully paid for and is really top notch. Non management types were good to work with. There was good flexibility to take care of family matters if necessary.

Cons

Being a man, I'm not usually in tune with gender bias issues. But there is no effort on the part of ECC to promote or hire women into management. Several of the managers at ECC are ex military brass and their general contempt and disregard for women in management is obvious. The organization at ECC is top heavy with vice presidents and program manager that don't do anything to justify their jobs. In fact, poor performance (such as losing millions upon millions of dollars on poorly run projects) on the part of managers is not punished by these individuals losing their jobs. There is a definite old boys club feel at ECC, with an insular core group that has no idea of what kind of problems are going on in their organization. If you bring up issues or point out problems, you are generally not long for the job. There is little to know communication or coordination between the different offices to find the right staff or numbers of staff to plan and execute projects. There is almost no emphasis on quality assurance in either their vertical construction or environmental projects.

Pros

ECC is a good company to work for as long as you are in the inner circle or know someone who is. They take care of their own. ECC dose pay for all of your medical benefits.

Cons

ECC is having issues with its international business. This has greatly affect their ability to complete work. Cash flow is a huge issue for the company. Vendors and Subcontractor are not getting paid in a timely manner and many are not paid at all. They are not honest with their employee’s about the current cash flow issues. Since they are not paying vendors and subcontractor many jobs have been delayed both domestic and internationally. Don’t bother putting a schedule together it will be impossible do keep until the cash flow issues are resolved. Regardless of what management tells their employee’s it will be at least a couple of years before this issues it resolved if at all. The culture rewards Yes people and if you speak up pack your office you will not last long.

Poor Advancement Opportunities

Recommend

Business Outlook

Pros

Good people, up to date IT, employee owned

Cons

Poor advancement opportunities, little to no training, salary not based performance, company willing to support certain very poor performers based on past relationships with complete disregard to those being hurt by that process, top management disconnected from everyday employees, poor communication with employee/owners, moral tends to be low for general workforce, not enough women in management, strong focus on safety but little focus on quality, upper management not held accountable for poor performing projects, old-boys-club - glass ceiling at play, almost the entire company is working in quadrant 1 (covey), does not learn from previous mistakes, without the benefits of small business status - management struggling.
