Pros

Progressive, supportive corporate culture, particularly with respect to work/life flexibility. Great reputation and strong spirit of volunteerism and community involvement. I'm very proud to work for Deloitte. Great technology, particularly the intranet. Lots of trust and autonomy. Incredible commitment to "going green" and diversity and inclusiveness. Very impressive.

Cons

Not the best onboarding experience I've ever had, but I'm getting over it. I've been with the company about six months and still have a LOT to learn, but am expected to just sort of know stuff that I couldn't possibly know. Sometimes it gets overwhelming and it can be hard to keep up with the constant flow of email and expectations of instantaneous responsiveness.

Pros

It is a very collaborative environment which promotes talent and hard working employees. There is an ability to recommend change and be heard even if not always acted upon. Flexible work arrangements are possible and an employer of choice is very important to the firm. They work very hard to compensate people, bring in good talent, reward achievement and offer training.

Cons

They do not do command and control very well. They have great room for improvement and change but while they may have very talented people recommend the "right solution" they may be their own worse enemy by not following through in areas of efficiency and cost savings. They hesitate to make solid rules and enforce them; ones that could improve the business. Being a partnership is a negative because there are no mandates like buying from one source or following policies that would promote process improvement.

Pros

Big, lots of different paths that can be taken within the organization. Firm has global reach, and lots of very bright and hard-working people. It will never hurt your resume to have a stint with Deloitte on it. The firm is by and large well intentioned, and generally comes out on the right ethical side of the issues. Senior management genuinely wants to make it a friendly place for people of all types and grades, but they don't always know how to bring this off successfully. Generally speaking, the firm attempts to do things in a first-class way, more or less.

Cons

The partnership structure creates an artificial and highly negative two-caste culture and mentality in the organization. The partners by and large make way too much money: in the private sector, most of them would have to take a 50% pay cut or more. Additionally, there is an excessive emphasis on billable hours, selling, bringing in revenues, which is at odds with the desire of the organization to continue being viewed as "different" from an ordinary "business" -- to be thought of as professionals acting in the public good. (That said, though, the organization mostly does make a positive contribution to, e.g., the transparent and fair functioning of the capital markets.)
