Pros

Great teamwork in each group that I have worked in. It appears that management does everything possible to delay layoffs by saving money in other ways. The product designs are becoming much more exciting and competitive. Internal blog for informal communication between employees around the world.

Cons

Management seems to be slow to react to market changes in the world economy. All of the old senior management that made Dell what it was have been replaced. Now, the replacements are leaving. Very limited technical training for the job.

Pros

You have a somewhat standard industry wage, not too good, not too great. You do get somewhat to choose your hours, that depends on your operation. Some of the people you work with are friendly and nice, but some of them can also be jerks. You can surf the Internet at work. Some supervisors are friendly and helpful. You get a MSDN subscription as a technician with Dell.

Cons

Not very stable, was laid off after a year of service. In fact, the whole location was laid off. Some supervisors have little or no business being supervisors. No real training other than Dell specifics, which is pretty useless for elsewhere.

Pros

Compensation and Benefis are pretty good. You can learn a lot by moving around in different jobs every 18 months or so and it is relatively easy to move to different groups.

Cons

Working at Dell is like smoking. It is very addictive and not very good for your long term health. The environment is always focused on cutting costs instead of meeting customer needs. There are many reorganizations, so it may be difficult to build credibility with your boss to get promoted. I had three different managers in 2008.
