Pros

Great benefits, medical, 401K. Former coworkers miss those. If you are in the MBA MKT track, you can get promoted very quickly. New CEO is trying to infuse a new culture of innovation and change. Good pay, in line with market. The company works in trying to make a nice work environment for everyone. In general, great quality of people, intelligent, with good work ethics.

Cons

Very hierarchical and political. If the key people like you, you will get promoted quickly. A fearful company. More focused in reducing costs , increase profit, and deal with the short team issues, than in creating true innovation or develop and invest in brands and UX, except among some exceptions in the oral care business. As a consequence of this fear environment, people spend endless hours to create presentations to justify everything, even minimal thinking. If there are issues raised, some managers will try to convince their teams they have the wrong type of thinking regardless of common sense. MKT creative agencies with long term contracts sometimes exhibit a scary lack of taste in design and creativity. There are very limited opportunities to choose a new agency unless you work in oral care. Teams are extremely lean after years of cost cutting programs. Is not rare to see people being asked to do a job two or three people did before. Managers don't focus in developing employees, just manage up. If an employee is not liked, a manager can say anything to wear them out and make them go, or let them go. HR will support these decisions .

Pros

Global focus, bright colleagues, nice working environment

Cons

Received the following advice from Justin Skala: "...[in order] to be successful at Colgate, you must leverage your alumni network." If you didn't go to Cornell, Dartmouth, or Wharton, good luck with that. Notions of 'diversity' are lip-service to the public. Very few hires from outside the NE educational establishment creates a bit of an echo chamber. Diversity of thought or opinion isn't highly valued. Absolutely zero risk tolerance with regards to innovation or new product development. Management focus is squarely on quarterly earnings.
