      From Open Source Darling to Top-Down Disaster

      Pros

      Remote-first setup offers flexibility, though that's more a relic of its past than a strategic strength today.

      Cons

      Camunda used to stand for community, autonomy, and technical excellence. That company is gone. The senior leader other glassdoor reviewers are talking about behaves like a volatile middle-school principal—yelling in meetings, belittling colleagues behind their backs (including their peers), and generally creating toxicity everywhere they go. Everyone talks about it, nobody addresses it. Transparency is dead. Promotions are arbitrary, performance feedback is weaponized, and internal politics matter more than actual results. The shift from open-source credibility to enterprise mediocrity is almost complete. Instead of leading the market, Camunda copies competitors and calls it “strategic evolution.” Morale outside of senior leadership is low, attrition is high, and trust is eroded at all levels. Don’t be fooled by the company’s public image. Behind the scenes is a deeply dysfunctional, CYA-first culture.

      Culture shift from hero to zero

      CEO recently announced that Camunda is not a place where an employee can find work/life balance and if they want it, they should look elsewhere

      Permanent soul searching

      Great technology, good market fit (narrow).

      Cons

      A minority of managers and senior team (lacks experience) haven't done this before hence constant soul searching, changes and hesitation: slow and demotivating.
