Promise of success

Pros

AlixPartners does offer a higher salary than most competitors, which could be appealing for those focused solely on compensation. If you're looking for a paycheck, this firm might be the right fit for you

Cons

However, that’s where the positives end. I joined AlixPartners from a top-tier Big 4, expecting a more supportive environment, autonomy, and real career growth. Unfortunately, the reality was far from the promise. Instead of fostering innovation and providing meaningful work, the firm prioritizes billable hours over quality service, leaving little room for personal or professional development. Career growth opportunities? Virtually nonexistent. With a small team and limited lateral movement, you're stuck. The bureaucracy here is suffocating more akin to a government agency than a dynamic consulting firm. If you're considering AlixPartners over a more prestigious competitor, think twice. This place will limit your potential.

Pros

Exciting assignments and diverse industries, lots of travel, work with some smart people. Specialized in turnarounds and restructurings only

Cons

Benefits package below average for industry. Business inefficient, mismanagement from top down. Can't manage their own business well. Employees encouraged to let businesses go into bankruptcy vs saving them to increase revenues to Alix Partners. Directors inflate billing hours, while cutting hours of lower level employees and contract personnel, but expected to throw in nonbillable hours. Lower level employees and contract employees treated with disrespect, long hours, pressured to provide nonbillable hours. Concentration of arrogant, condescending employees to newer hires and clients. More restructuring work than actual turnarounds being done. Many employees with accounting background who never owned or operated businesses, causing problems with completing turnarounds

Pros

Interesting projects. Flexible with expenses and travel decisions.Provides a good laptop and decent equipment from day one. In the restructuring team, the firm wins solid cases based on its longstanding reputation. Plenty of experienced consultants with deep domain knowledge.

Cons

Unfortunately, the internal politics are relentless and often overshadow the actual work. There’s been constant reshuffling of org charts, which creates confusion and instability. On top of that, longstanding diversity and inclusion issues remain unaddressed in several areas, despite the firm’s claims to the contrary. It often feels like style over substance when it comes to culture and leadership.
