Pros

Great brand name recognition in the relevant industries and market segments; it started out as a turnaround firm but has branched out to other areas, including financial advisory services (FAS). However, at its core it's still a turnaround/restructuring firm; it continues to have excellent brand name recognition in this particular segment. Within FAS the corporate investigation practice also has done well and is growing rapidly. The compensation system is good, particularly one is willing to put in long hours. The firm has very good future prospects and likely to benefit greatly in the recessionary environment where many firms/industries are looking for performance improvement and turnaround services.

Cons

Certain practice areas have little work-life balance; poor communication from management. It is extremely turnaround-service centric and the leadership shows little respect or recognition to the accomplishments of other practice areas.

Pros

Compensation and benefits are probably the best in the consulting world. It is hard to imagine something better. Base salary is a tad lower than other consulting firms, but the comp structure is variable, so when you put in those long hours on a project, you're rewarded immediately. This is not discretionary, there is a formula for that. Benefits are fully covered by the firm. Work hours are flexible and they are respectful of needed/booked time off.

Cons

Career advancement is way slower than in other firms. You could be a partner at other firm and still be a VP/manager leve al AlixPartners. Bonuses and promotions are huge black boxes: communication on how they are calculated is non existant.
