Pros

Great coworkers, always willing to help out, which is good because there is no on the job training and no direction from leaders -there is a real 'figure it out or be shown the door' mentality from management which is dangerous when putting the lives of airline passengers on the line. Airplanes are complicated and nobody is an expert at all tasks.

Cons

One particular manager is single handedly going to shut down the MRO. All of the good technicians and team leads have fled the company within the last 3 weeks due to his mismanagement. Our planes go out weeks late and when they go out they come back the same day with problems, which are usually unethically and illegally jury-rigged. Pay is very poor for the field. Managers and supervisors seem to be unhinged, emotionally unstable, unpredictable maniacs and are either your best friend or at risk of physically assaulting you at any given time. Verbal abuse is the norm. Forced mandatory overtime and 12 to 14 hour days have burnt out the few people who actually cared about their work. In addition to the Duluth facility losing 20-30 of their best employees of maybe 300 some employees, a handful of career ending injuries and heart attacks have cost even more. I wouldn't be caught dead on an Air Canada or United plane... well... I suppose there is a really good chance I'd be dead if I ever flew on one these disasters.

Pros

Swings shift is a laid back and easy working environment with little to do. Most of the work is performed during the day shift.

Cons

Always correcting mistakes of incompetent supervisors and management. Embezzlement is rampant, from key supervisors who allow fraudulent lost time sheets to be submitted by favored employees or materials consistently disappearing to expeditors submitting padded bills to vendor clients for work never performed on planes. Nepotism, office politics, and incompetence is rampant problem. Outdated and inadequate equipment to work with. Inept employees who act as if they live on the streets. Very low pay compared to other companies. Worthless benefits. Low morale.

Pros

You'll learn about heavy aircraft maintenance, and you don't need an FAA license to start. But don't stay long. Get your license and move on as quickly as possible.

Cons

The higher ups don't care about taking care of employees, they only care about their bottom line. The GSE is garbage, the tugs leak oil creating dangerous spills, and the jackstands haven't been serviced in years. If you've got a problem with a supervisor, suck it up, because management doesn't care about your well being.

Whoa, hold here, please. First, thank-you for post, as I am always surfacing ways to hit the after-burner on everything. Second, my pleasure to visit with you. Always on the grid at gdellinger@aarcorp.com, so pop a signal flare if you want. Also, would love to share well being items worked, including the on-site gym, Nurse Debbie, etc., as I have personally worked & uplifted. Very familiar with the Will Rogers station. #BlueSkies , g
