      Ecosystem Architect Interview

      May 15, 2023
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Singapur
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Continental (Singapur) in Apr 2023

      Interview

First interview was with the technical department. The second interview was with the HR. I was contact by an external recruiter who works with Continental in Singapore. The first interview was pretty good. I liked both the interviewers. They were very friendly. The interview lasted about 1.5 hours although planned was 1 hour. I had a very good impression after the interview and I could totally imagine working with them. A week later, I had the HR interview. The interview generally went quite well, however, there were some reservations about the expected salary. I was told a number that they'd be comfortable with and was told a story about "regionally competitive salary" and "equity among existing employees". Well first of all, the question of regionally competitive salary arises only if the hiring is happening regionally, which it was not. I was interviewing from Germany. About the equity among employees, I can't say much but this gives me the impression that in the future, the HR will also block any upward mobility based on performance because of the "equity". I didn't quite get it. I think it is a tactic to make a lowball offer. Additionally, when the recruiter contacted me the very first time, the first thing we actually clarified was the salary and I made it very clear what my expectations are. The recruiter then gave me the feedback that because the role is niche and difficult to find a person with that profile, the team in Singapore is willing to go ahead. Only then we continued with the interview. In the end, it wasted everyone's time when they made a very lowball offer, which I rejected. I also rejected the second offer because it was still not even close and it was financially not feasible for me to move with that salary from Germany to Singapore. The relocation package also seemed quite weird because they wouldn't pay the flight ticket for the spouse and will pay accommodation for only first week in Singapore and nothing else. This I could live with but this is sub par, at least compared to what is the norm in Germany.

      Question 1

Questions about my work in different companies so far. Reasons for leaving previous jobs. Goals for the future. Pretty standard.
