Going downhill

Pros

Used to be a great place to work despite frequent long hours and occasional internal fights (I'd expect this with many companies). London did great up until Greg Conlon stepped in as a regional head - a guy with a huge personal ego and no respect for anyone else around him but the people above. But even then, with the old team still around, it was manageable and we delivered very good results..

Cons

From 2008 onward London has seen an exodus of the top caliber people on a regular basis. Those are being replaced with either contract personal who have little respect for the company's culture and beliefs and treat this as a temporary solution, or senior management's friends who again lack the ability to drive the ship forward. This is compounded by a constant internal reshuffling often resulting in management personnel being put in positions they have little understanding of. Given all this, WP has lost its position among the leading engineering firms, clients do not see it as a trust worthy organisation anymore. Yet the management is trying very hard to portrait an opposite picture by feeding the personal with some vague and extremely generic words. Morale on the floor is at its lowest for years

No personal growth potential

Pros

Salary and benefits are above average. Generally a good place to work with friendly employees focused on their work. Yearly performance reviews are a waste of time ( if they occur) as there is zero followup on employee needs and wishes.

Cons

The existence and use of a training budget and program is always indicated at town hall style meetings. In reality there is no or little training offered here, with none to people in technical positions. No chance at all for position advancement unless you are in the "old boys club." Managers continue to be hired even while the worker population continues to be decimated. Most managers are uniformly weak technically or business-wise and have no right to be in these positions. There is no knowledge progression from lower ranks into such positions. High level management appears to have no defined direction and seems to add or change goals or initiatives with regular frequency. Company appears unfocused or ignorant to meet challenges in this market.

Pros

Could have filled this section 10 times over 2 years earlier. Now, highlight of my day is going home. Lunch is a close second.

Cons

John Grill was an awesome leader, inspired those around him and that filtered down to the 'common' staff. Great opportunities now gone. Coffee, milk, now just cheap awful instant and milk runs out by 11am
