      Pros

      VMware has great products and excellent individual contributors. The company also offers a pretty good benefits package and competitive paid time off.

      Cons

      The company has really struggled with growth and maturity since the IPO. It currently runs a very loose operations model that causes a fair amount of fear, uncertainty and doubt.

      Pros

      Working with very smart people is an absolute pleasure. Things move at a quick pace and results are achieved quickly when all the resources are within your control.

      Cons

      Extremely nerdy culture - even at a Senior Management level - you are expected to be extremely technical. Misalignment amongst the exec team - the exec team runs their respective functions like general managers, with little communication at the next levels. Outwardly a polite culture, but had started to become very politically charged after 2004 - post EMC aquisition mainly due to the growth - folks started to mark out their territories, and were extremely protective of their space and teams. Some of the collaborative culture went away as a result.

      Pros

      Employees are treated well. In fact employees can get away with anything. There are no pressure to work late. Come and go as you want as long as you get your work done.

      Cons

      Lack of talent at all levels of management from the top down. No process. No communication. The only way to get promoted is politics, not how well you perform. To much fighting between teams. VMware employees and management forget that they are competing with other companies and not internal departments. Too much money being spent on stupid things.
