      Ed Coleman attempting turnaround at Unisys

      Pros

      For professional level positions, Unisys provides employees a lot of flexibility in their work hours and work location. Many employees work virtually. The best part is employees are not looked down upon for working virtually. In addition, Unisys provides a lot of challenges in helping turn the company around - recreating processes/policiies. I enjoy working with my co-workers; a great group of people.

      Cons

      Unisys is at a critical point in time. Ed Coleman is working on making some major changes to bring the company into a profitable status. That involves layoffs throughout the world and some cuts such as no increases this year and very tight control over spending any money.

      Pros

      As a virtual worker one often works from home, flexible work schedules, engagements are exciting work, administrative work is relatively easy, good access to technology and training materials, approachable and accessible management, challenging work assignments, most colleagues are extremely hard working and knowledgeable

      Cons

      Poor communicaton, senior management manages by rumor, work plans are inaccurate and not up to date, no accountaibility to staying on project, many sixty plus hour weeks are expected, little gratitude or acknpwledgement for hard work, management is approachable but does not really listen or understand reported issues and concerns, clients are placated and at times mislead, HR is a joke and does not support staff, review process attempts to be SMART but falls far short of more modern companies

      Pros

      Great infrastructure of systems and centralised resources. You definitely notice it when you've moved on from Unisys to a new organisation. It goes without saying that on an individual level many of the people were great and I learned a lot from professionals who probably didn't realise that they were mentors or role models.

      Cons

      where to begin - hours, morale, poor leadership, having to go to work in the mornings with a fire extinguisher on your back because you never knew whwre the next one was going to break out. In fact, to illustrate the point, every time someone got yanked from what they were doing, or was 'stood up' for important meetings, the most most common reason given (like that made it all ok) was that they had been called to a 'fire drill' Pur-lease!
