Pros

One of the only jobs where you can walk in and say 'I'd like a job, please.' and they will give you one if you pass the background check. Where else can you work a Part time job and receive health insurance? Free public transit in Louisville for employees.

Cons

The job is brutal, most new hires leave in the first few weeks. The ramp is a burning concrete desert in the summer, and work is in all weather. The floor will eat your shoes, a pair every 6-8 months. Pay is based on time in the job. No advancement or reward for a job well done. You can move positions, but they are rewarded by seniority, expect to stay where they put you for at least the first year. The company treats its employees with contempt, they choose to stop providing styrofoam cups due to cost. I been in cleaner bathrooms in prison. Union will try and get your job back if your fired, leads to a sense of invinciblity in the high seniority long-time employees. The company has the supervisors running scared, they announced their intent to fire 30,000 employees this year (2026). They can't touch the union employees, so that means the corporate employees are facing the axe. The equipment the company provides, especially the airport tractors (tugs) are not maintained, the preventive maintenance program was cut to increase profits. Any tug you're assigned could leave you stranded out on the ramp.

Pros

Company offers top wages, fringe benefits among the top in the industry, a retirement pension fund, a 401K, opportunity to purchase company stock, ( the parent company's stock or UPS) reasonably fair work environment

Cons

Because it is a union operated company, supervision is a stickler for minor errors, the work is hard and occasionally having to pick all the freight on the floor to sort, palletize, shrink-wrap and rout it to it's proper destination trailer

Pros

Good if you enjoy being active and physical can meet friendly people at who will help you at times for the most part supervisors will be understanding and try to work with you, but you will still need to put in the effort that is required pay is progressive and can be good once you meet top rate, decent benefits, sick days hire from with in and can try some different things if there is a spot available

Cons

Physical job that can take some time getting used to the pace. The work is repetitive and tiring at times Cant bring in electronics to work have to leave in the front lockers, can be boring at times Can get hot in the summer working in the trailers Pay progression can take a couple years to see the full benefit of top Sometimes work is unrealistic for everyone even management.
