Pros

Competitive salary, excellent benefits for retail (401K with company match, fully vested pension of 3 years, health benefits, discounts at companies such as Weight Watches and Verizon Wireless), fun place to work, easy to request time off/take a leave of absence. I have held three positions within a little over a year with the company; each position has had increasing responsibilities and pay. I feel like I am able to stay with the company for the long-haul. Many store managers are helpful, friendly and do not look down on those who are younger or lower on the totem pole than they are.

Cons

Store management can be disconnected from reality and unwilling to listen to and/or consider ideas from non-manager employees, some employees have bad/negative attitudes for no good reason. Hours are not guaranteed (you could have 40 hours one week at 20 hours the next). The biggest issue is the fact that some store managers look down and belittle normal team members.

Pros

Goes by fast, always busy-- the people I work with are great for the most part, quite characters and entertaining...but I don't think that has much to do with the company overall. I enjoy free pb and j or whatnot in the breakroom on occasion, and since I work in electronics i enjoy seeing the new releases come in

Cons

too low pay for tasks assigned, in electronics specifically we have so much to accomplish, including incessant customer service via phone, radio, and in store. hours are severely effected by the economy, and we are underpaid

Pros

A target store is a fast pace enviroment to work in. There is always something that needs to be achieved. It requires that you are always on the move and you are never really behind a desk or staring at a computer all day long. It is a difficult store to manage, because there are many operational processes that need to work effectivelly and in sync in order to have a succesful store. It requires critical thinking and the ability to manage your time and resources efficiently. If you have the ability to develop people and to improve operational processes, runing a store will become a very easy and rewarding job.

Cons

Target is not for everyone. At Target, you have to make it happen. You do not get recognized for trying or for making improvements. If you want to be recognized, you have to make it happen. And if you can't do it every day, then your not really doing it. There are no prices for being second best.
