Why NOT to work at Target

Pros

Steady paycheck, you lead your own team, benefits are offered (but pricey), opportunities for you to develop your team with professional growth

Cons

Once a sales floor team leader, there is no further professional growth. The Targets in my area/group always hired from the outside and did not even post internal growth opportunities. They do not treat their Team Leaders fairly and sometimes make decisions based off seniority. Their expectations are constantly changing and their Executive Team Leader turnover was ridiculous while I was employed with the company.

Great Brand. Mostly nice people. Sharp executive management. Best customers. Great private label products. Management credibility high at the highest levels.

Cons

Thinking done either by executive management or by outside parties. Too many people doing too few things. Low pay and poor benefits.

Pros

They are really great with recognition for the team. Lots of overall little perks such as free ice cream day, birthday cake day every month, and random celebratory parties for the team.

Cons

Very tasky work for a Senior Team Leader. You are pretty much made to run the store as an Executive (like an assistant manager) in the building without the pay. This is to prove you are able to and want the job. But you also have to run your own department on top of this. Very stressful workload at times. And you cannot move up into an Executive position until you have a bachelors degree.
