Pros

Usually good people working with you, possibly as a result of the personality tests people are subjected to, pre-employment. Generally good recognition of achievement, and good benefits. (Full Medical/Vision/Dental available at a relatively inexpensive cost to the employee) ... pretty good flexibility, except it is mandatory that you are available both weekend days. Opportunities to transfer to stores nationwide.

Cons

Low pay, although I suppose that's the standard for the retail industry. Very few promotional opportunities currently, as they eliminate leadership positions when they are vacated, or hire from outside often. Hideous underemployment. They intentionally do this, I believe, to make it so employees are more expendable. They hire more staff than they can employ even close to full-time during down seasons. I saw this for a period of several years... expect to get around 10-20 hours after Christmas and until the mid to late summer. They told me and others that got this kind of treatment that we were being hired as full-time employees as well. Very dishonest. Leadership at the Albuquerque store (although not at my San Diego store... much better there) was somewhat condescending and the work there was much more menial... typically just "zoning" which is making the shelves and sales floor area look neat, for hours on end. At my previous store, intelligent, hard-working people such as myself were asked to help with more challenging tasks by the team leads, but not so at the Albuquerque Eubank store. Overall, I wouldn't recommend Target as a team member to anyone other than someone needing to work marginally while in school. It certainly won't even pay your most basic bills during the "down time" seasons and you'll need a second job at a minimum. Team Lead or above may be somewhat better, as hours are guaranteed and the pay is somewhat better.

Pros

Great place to work for life balance with work. Friendly team members to work with and socialize outside of work. Convienence to home.

Cons

Promotional opportunity non existent now. Pay raises and starting wages inadequate especially compared to Super Walmart, our only competition. Walmart is trying to become Target. Unfortunately Target seems to want to go the way of old Walmart.

Pros

Great benefits. Discounts for other retailers. Work every other weekend (except during holidays). Emphasis on development.

Cons

Long hours. Very secretive concerning movement within district. Promotions not based on merit/performance. So much emphasis on development, yet no results.
