Pros

Managers were fair and for the most part, professional. Pay is very poor, but Target offers better benefits than most other retail establishments. Walkie-talkies are given to employees and floor managers so they can communicate with each other without running all over the store to find them. In all fairness, any other complaint I have about working there could probably apply to any other retail store (long hours, low pay, exhausted when shift is over, rude customers, etc.)

Cons

Target closes at 10pm every night. Very late for a retailer. And nobody leaves until the store is immaculate, which was generally between 11:45 and midnight. If the store is extra messy (like during the holidays) be prepared to stay until 12:30 or even 1 am. You have to wear red and khaki EVERY DAY. Unless you have a closet full of red shirts and khaki pants, be prepared to do extra loads of laundry! Oh, and about those walkie-talkies, most of them were broken half of the time, and there were never enough of them for all of the employees on the floor to have one.

Pros

Lots of friendly people and culture. Decent benefit package and salaries.

Cons

If you are a techie and wish to remain a techie, do not work here. Most techies end up becoming middle managers, coordinating work with offshore workers. Dont be fooled by titles like Technical Architect, Systems Engineer etc. Even they are nothing but glorified coordinators. If your goal is to become a manager, Target is a good place, but remember promotions do not come easy or to the deserving. Most of the times, you have to kiss plenty off rear. Your yearly review has nothing to do with your promotion, which may come as a shock to most.

Pros

The company pays for good talent. It is best to join the company after having worked for a consulting firm or at a competitor. Those that started their careers at Target tend to get paid less than those that joined mid-career. Opportunities abound at Target, just know what you want and know when to express it. (i.e. after you've done something great, somebody who likes your work will ask you if you've thought about what you want to do next. Be prepared for this as it can save you from moving in the wrong direction or help you move into that key next position before it's posted)

Cons

As with any company, it is really important to carefully select the people you want to work with/for. If somebody doesn't like your work or the way you work, you may be coached out of the organization. Target has a very strong culture or being nice, friendly and collaborative. And when it comes time for reviews, your manager will ask everyone what they think of you. If you are not "nice" or "collaborative" you'll hear about it and this is a very difficult image to overcome. Also, you will get a ton of feedback from anyone, anywhere. Just be prepared for it and learn how to sort the good feedback from the bad.
