Pros

I spent >10 years at Software AG - moving between different roles, and growing my skills and my career. When things work, the company can be a great learning opportunity and a great place to work. The people and teams I worked with were nearly all great - one of the most collaborative environments I've encountered was at Software AG. A genuine belief in people and desire to do the right thing - even when the implementation didn't go quite right.

Cons

With the Silver Lake take-private in 2023, the company changed A LOT. I cannot emphasise this enough. Management style became much more ruthless (rounds of layoffs) and many products have been (or are being) sold/divested - webMethods sale to IBM, and Cumulocity has been announced as a spinoff as well. There's a lot of change going on, so make sure you're aware of this going in. It's not necessarily a bad thing, but it's not "comfortable". The company needed streamlining and modernising in many areas, moving forwards from a perpetual-license, finance-driven organisation - a lot of work had been done but the company is still playing catch-up. Not a fast adopter of new technologies - missed the beginning of Cloud and was slow to start on AI opportunities as well. The yearly release cycle is very dated and contributes to this.

Pros

You can chill, since bonus is based on company performance. If you're someone who is performing or worse, outperforming the rest of your team, you will just get the same % of bonus. That's why a lot of people here are very incompetent.

Cons

As a tech company, salary and benefits are mediocre. Good folks in the market wont even consider joining here unless its a no-choice situation. Most people managers are incompetent. A lot have been promoted but was not properly trained to be at least effective people managers. HRs have the employees' interest at heart the least! They blame employees for being underpaid (compared to market) because they chose to stay in the company for many years. Somehow they also appear unapproachable because they just throw you under the bus or blame you and put the company on a pedestal or always in defensive mode. They also have this blame and political culture. They operate in hierarchy model which is outdated, just like the company's products. And of course the CEO, who only cares about the money, the Board and not its employees. He has been selling the company, and its businesses (its public info), doesnt even care about how it will affect the employees, especially those who have been loyal to them for years! I wonder what will be left of this company in months, if not years to come.
