Pros

HIGH TECHNOLOGY - I have worked for several companies and Motorola Solutions does work in the latest technology or competitive. FLEXIBLE TIME - You can take PTO or Sick Leave. I rarely took sick leave but it was always there. This can be a double edged sword, I'll mention in my Cons. GOOD PAY - Pay is competitive with other companies.

Cons

DOES NOT INVEST IN ITS PEOPLE - I once asked about Green Belt training (Six Sigma) and was told that they do not do that anymore. No classes on new languages. Its expected that you have it coming out of college, or learn it on the job, and what job/task you have determines your technical progression. NOT FRIENDLY TO EXPERIENCED PEOPLE - Due to the constantly layoffs experienced people are in competition with "fresh outs" to keep their job. CONSTANT LAYOFFS - All companies lay off but never 3 layoffs in less than 2 years, and usually when layoffs occur its done as a last resort due to the effect it has on employee motivation, cohesion for those that survive, and families for those that are laid off. I would say the layoffs at Motorola Solutions has become a business practice. TAKING ADVANTAGE PTO AND SICK LEAVE - I have worked for several companies and have never seen a company where so many people work from home (WFO), (WAH). Many take Paid Time Off (PTO) or half days. I have never seen in all my years people come in in shorts and/or sandals. Many employees take advantage of the flex time given. I have never seen people come in at 1pm and work till 5pm.

Pros

Some jobs allow working from home .. But soon diminishing.

Cons

Upper management being critical to even top performing individuals Workplace Morale is horrible Raises are typically 2% Those that commute to Schaumburg will have to drive to Chicago as they are shutting down 90% of the existing campus because they aren't getting any more tax breaks from the village. CEO loves playing word games in town halls and lies Diminished benefits Bonus- not worth the postage stamp after taxes Layoffs every quarter-- higher at Thanksgiving time.

Pros

Lots of things to learn especially for fresh graduates and new engineers. Flexible working hours for those above grades of E05 (fresh engineer). Sense of proudness. New office building just opened over looking the sea but cubicle a lot smaller. Great working environment never the less, great teamwork within some departments and minimal silos.

Cons

Too many grade levels to keep you chasing promotions and most will be stuck at E08/E09. Takes ages to grow to E09/E10 and above. A lot of benefits being cut, for example no more stock option/shares rewards for E11 and below. Used to be rewarded at E07(senior engineer). Just to show how greedy top management is. No more free food on Wednesday. Medical benefits cuts. Team-building cuts. Too many cost reduction activities adds up to too many processes and chasing approvals. Cronies and they get promoted yearly and most are already at E12(director). Others typically stuck at E09(first line manager/senior staff). Justification is easy for cronies but not for others. Many great people have left. But if you come from outside or a new engineer/manager you'll fit in just fine.
