Supportive team culture undermined by favoritism and poor management
Pros
A supportive and collaborative team culture, flexible working arrangements
Cons
My skip-level manager is approachable, even-handed, and appears to make a genuine effort to understand and support all team members. My direct manager, however, tends to show clear favoritism, which has negatively affected team dynamics and morale. There have been multiple occasions where my contributions were mistakenly attributed to other team members, or where important information and instructions related to my responsibilities were communicated to a colleague instead of directly to me. This has created unnecessary confusion, inefficiencies, and duplication of effort within the team. In addition, I have observed that suggestions or updates I provide often receive little engagement, whereas the same ideas presented by certain favored team members are met with enthusiasm and support. Over time, this inconsistency has been highly demotivating. The manager also frequently speaks negatively about other team members, which undermines psychological safety and discourages open communication. As a result, team morale and trust have been negatively impacted. Overall, the leadership style has contributed to inefficiencies, reduced transparency, and a significant decline in my motivation and engagement.
