Pros

The place is very stable, stress is low, pay and benefits are decent (not great). Lots of very technical and interesting people.

Cons

Barely competent mid-level management, strong hierarchy. No career growth. Process heavy at the cost of innovation. 20th century style management.

Pros

From a company standpoint they are stable. They have great resources at your disposal.

Cons

You definitely have to drink the koolaid here and kiss all the right butts. Senior management makes all the decisions. Even if you do a great job that will be overlooked if you aren't kissing Sr. Managements butt. They have a sense of arrogance that I never saw when I was there but on the outside people know this and it's a knock on the company. Get ready to jump through hoops if you want to be hired there. You may even be lied to more than once.

Pros

- MathWorks has some very interesting areas that they work on. - The work environment outside of EDG is great. - Work-life balance is respected. - EDG could be a good way for non-CS majors to get a foot in the door in the tech industry.

Cons

- In EDG your career is put on pause while you essentially continue to search for jobs at the company. - Technical support is a BIG part of EDG (often more than half the work!). Interviewers are generally not upfront about it. - You spend two weeks on a project, then two weeks focused on technical support. This slows down progress and feels extremely inefficient. - While MathWorks does not officially do mass layoffs, if they want to reduce headcount EDG feels the squeeze.
