Lots of smart people; people are generally very nice and not pretentious; privately held company invests in itself: people and facilities; great social mission; great health insurance; quarterly profit sharing.

Cons

No work-from-home (except for safety); lots of bureaucracy getting in the way of actual software development; new hires not commensurate with experience but all the same (same vacation allotment, all inside offices); follows its own drum -- the MathWorks way

Senior management in Natick is good. Team in India has good ownership.

Cons

The quality of the work getting assigned to you would be highly dependent on your terms with your manager, basically favoritism is practiced heavily. Some managers in MathWorks India operates their teams like service companies, with minimal or no friendly behavior.

Teams are small and extremely collaborative. Opportunity to work on challenging technical problems. Good work life balance.

Cons

No work from home policy Becoming increasingly process-intensive over past few years. Conflicting demands on getting new flashy features out the door versus updating legacy features that are in serious need of refactoring/redesign -- the latter usually ends up being sacrificed for the former. Lower salaries compared to similar tech companies.
