As a current employee, I feel compelled to speak out about my experience at MBDA. The company has a serious and ongoing issue with diversity, particularly regarding the representation and treatment of BAME (Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic) individuals. Despite numerous recruitment campaigns and public statements, there is a clear lack of BAME staff across departments and divisions. Roles that attract BAME applicants are often dismissed with vague justifications like “too many applications”—a phrase that has become a common excuse. In my experience, these decisions reflect unwritten directives from senior leadership, fostering a culture that discourages inclusion. MBDA also fails to be transparent about diversity metrics. When pressed, the company is reluctant to share data on BAME representation. When data is shared, it often includes individuals employed by third-party suppliers, not direct staff, skewing the picture and avoiding accountability. If you’re from a diverse background and value equity in the workplace, I strongly advise you to think carefully before applying. The issues I’ve described are systemic, not isolated, and change seems unlikely without significant external pressure.
