Pros

Flexibility to solve customer issues, even when they are absurd in nature. Proximity to home, co-workers, fixed schedule for the most part, 401K, bonus (if you ever see it)

Cons

Computer systems are from 1980, no they are literally from 1980. Call IT go through the prompts and then you get a message that all lines are busy please call back again later. (If I didn't need help now I wouldn't have called). Corporate Americana, still have to deal with the good old boy's network. They hire from other retail fields as lateral hires, most of those hires have a lifespan of 18 months. Home improvement retail is completely different from Target, Best Buy and many of them can't grasp the product knowledge needed to run a store. Stock price has fallen quicker than the Titanic. Retire rich used to be their motto.

Pros

The pay is good and there is good opportunity for advancement, but that all depends on the store you work in. Quality of management varies from store to store, as I have learned.

Cons

It is retail, so it is dealing with some unrealistic customers-but that is every retail job. Not just a refelction on Lowe's. A major downside is that they are not more particular about the management they put in stores. Some stores have extremely bad management and coporate does nothing to change things. Which hurts the whole company.

Pros

if you are interested in a career, Lowes can fulfill that goal. The benefits are superior to many. The 401K is one of the best of its kind and Lowes is a top 50 company to work for. It is easy to form a team within the stores and be a part of that team. Lowes customers are great and willing to form a relationship with their sales specialists. Stock performance has shown a steady gain and has rewarded many employees for their hard work and dedication. Robert Niblock has implemented many different bonus structures to ensure monetary rewards for senior managers despite housing lull.

Cons

Long hours, stress, lack of schedule planning to create a work/life balance. Low payroll hours. Dinosaur computer systems, Lowes could learn from Home Depots practice of having a team dedicated to filling shelves, stocking, while allowing the sales personel to concentrate on the customers without worrying about inventory replenishment deadlines. There is still remnants of the "good old boy" syndrome, where its who you know and not what you do to ensure promotions or transfers. Lack of employees can make you feel as if you are alone and doing most of the physical work yourself. But with the right direction, good management will fill the void.
