Pros

Good health benefits (Canada only) Baristas on site are incredible.

Cons

Lightspeed has seriously lost its way with our new CEO. Most decisions are made without employee input with no regard to the impact it will have. There has been a major push for RTO to encourage “collaboration” and a vibrant “company culture “ however, most sales employees work exclusively with their clients via emails and phone calls which are hard if not impossible to do in the open concept office. There are a few quiet rooms to work in, yet they are generally all booked as people are trying to work. Everyone above direct manager has not been on a call with clients in over 5 years. They have no idea of the workload or the insane number of responsibilities the sales team are under. Targets are constantly changing to try to pay as little as possible. Many employees are on the verge of burnout or have quit due to it. Sales processes change weekly and there is very little input from the people it impacts the most. Sales has “unlimited” vacation days but you only get quota relief for 4 weeks. You only get 15% reduction for a week and must take a full week off to get the reduction so long weekends are a no-go. Parking is expensive since they only cover a portion because “we want to encourage environmentally friendly transit options” but the most environmentally friendly option (WFH) is unacceptable. WiFi in the office is unusable. Pets are welcome, but no regard is given to those who don’t like working near other people’s pets.

Hi, thanks for your review and the impact you’ve been making at Lightspeed in your time so far with us. It’s great to see you’re enjoying the health benefits and barista at our headquarters - we agree it’s incredible to baristas on site. Your perspective on our return to office initiative and Sales in general is concerning, as well as the fact that you feel you’re not being heard. We strongly encourage you to reach out to our confidential email, people@lightspeedhq.com to book time for a conversation or speak with your People Business Partner about this. We want all of our people to feel supported to thrive and do great work. We truly believe in the power of our hybrid approach of a combination of in-office and work from home—we have world-class offices designed to empower our people to get creative, solve problems and achieve our mission. We’d love to sit down for a talk about this and hope to hear from you directly soon.

Pros

Flexible paid time off The people - Lightspeed hires very intelligent people. It’s a shame that folks end up leaving quite soon after they started. So no real progress can be made with projects etc.

Cons

- Path to profitability by any means necessary - cut travel for employees to see each other if remote, etc. However the C-Suite can travel to the South of France and the Carribean for their off-site meetings. Not to mention minimal increases, and unclear promotion cycles. - DEI as it relates to return to office - a question came up in a company wide Q&A where concerns were shared around returning to office for BIPOC and women. Our CPO had a politically correct and fine response, however the CEO insisted on taking the mic and saying that ‘this company has some challenges ahead, so you can either prioritize winning and success or work life balance’. What message is this sending to employees who are parents or caretakers and do not have the choice but to take care of people and prioritize work life balance. Does this mean they are not bound for success? He also said ‘this isn’t for everybody - so if it’s not for you maybe Lightspeed isn’t for you’. - lack of core vision - this company was built on the value of supporting SMBs, etc. Now all of a sudden we went High GTV customers. The CEO is trying to be toast and shopify without having what it takes to get there.
